Herbal Extract Help Relieve Stress and Anxiety

Rhodiola rosea, an herbal extract that’s widely sold as an antidote to stress and anxiety in humans, extended the life of fruit flies who were fed a diet rich in the supplement in a study conducted by UC Irvine.

“Flies that were supplemented with a diet rich with Rhodiola rosea … lived on average 10 percent longer than flies that didn’t eat the herb,” UCI says in a news release. The study was recently published in the journal Rejuvenation Research.

Dr Mahtab JafariMahtab Jafari, the professor of pharmaceutical science who led the study, says that, “Although this study does not present clinical evidence that Rhodiola (shown in photo) can extend human life, the finding that it does extend the life span of a model organism, combined with its known health benefits in humans, make this herb a promising candidate for further anti-aging research.”

Jafari is associated with UCI’s Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine, whose mission includes the scientific study of supplements.

Cell Phone Use Increases Risks of Cancer

Regular use of mobile telephones increases the risk of developing tumours, a new scientific study by Israeli researchers and published in the American Journal of Epidemiology revealed on Friday.

An extract of the report seen by Israel’s Yedoit Aharonot newspaper put the risk of developing a parotid gland tumour nearly 50 percent higher for frequent mobile phone users — more than 22 hours a month.

The risk was still higher if users clamped the phone to the same ear, did not use hands-free devices or were in rural areas.

“Analysis restricted to regular users or to conditions that may yield higher levels of exposure (eg heavy use in rural areas) showed consistently elevated risks,” said an abstract of the report in the US journal made available to AFP.

The study included 402 benign and 58 malignant incident cases of parotid gland tumour diagnosed in Israel at age 18 years or more, in 2001-2003.

The research was led by Dr Siegal Sadetzki, a cancer and radiation expert at the Chaim Sheba Medical Centre in Israel and as part of a World Health Organisation project.

Winter Blues affects 10% to 20% of Americans each year – find cure here

You’ve heard of the “Winter Blues” – the doldrums, and is often followed by weight gain. If your mood takes a nose-dive about this time each year, you might have a common, treatable condition that comes and goes with the seasons, experts say. Seasonal affective disorder, or SAD, often dubbed the “winter blues,” afflicts about 10% to 20% of Americans, especially those living in Northern climets, according to the American Psychiatric Association.

SAD is a physical condition that can lead to a psychological disorder, says Angelos Halaris, chair of the department of psychiatry and behavioral neurosciences at Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Ill. As the daylight hours shorten each day, the reduced exposure to light causes a biochemical imbalance in some people’s brains, Halaris says.

“We believe SAD is some kind of genetic residue akin to hibernation in mammals—the human equivalent,” he says.

Most people’s body clocks, or circadian rhythms, adjust to seasonal changes in light, says David Avery, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle.

But those who don’t adapt are more prone to winter depression. “It’s analogous to a permanent kind of jet lag — a jet lag that lasts for months rather than a few days,” he says. “That puts a lot of stress on the body.”

People with mild to moderate SAD may notice symptoms of depression crop up in early fall. Others say in deep winter they tumble into an emotional pit. Excessive sleeping, weight gain, extreme fatigue and irritability can last through March or April, when the days start to get a little longer, Avery says.

More severe SAD sufferers may struggle through normal daily activities or become suicidal.

There are a number of effective treatments, Avery says. The most well established is light therapy – exposure to artificial sunlight to trick the body into maintaining its summer rhythms.

Take seasonal mood changes seriously since SAD can become progressively worse over the years, Halaris says.

“Be preventative. See a doctor,” he says. “We’re heading into the season, and it’s time to gear up.”

Mobile phones can take as little as ten minutes to trigger changes in the brain associated with cancer, scientists claimed yesterday. They found even low levels of radiation from handsets interfere with the way brain cells divide. Cell division encourages the growth of tumors. Although the researchers did not come up with evidence that mobile phone signals are harmful, the findings suggest they could be. Several major studies have also found no link between mobile use and brain tumors, nor a dramatic rise in cancer rates.

But supporters of cell phone reform insist the discovery undermines official advice that the devices are safe. The guidance is based on the assumption that the phones emit too little radiation to heat the brain dangerously. However, the new study by the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel suggests "non-thermal" radiation could pose a risk. The Israeli scientists exposed human and rat cells in a laboratory to low-level radiation at 875 megahertz - a similar frequency to the one used in many mobile phones.

Although the radiation was far weaker than emissions from a typical handset, it began to switch on a chemical signal inside the cells within ten minutes, the researchers report in the Biochemical Journal. The chemical signals they detected were involved in the division of cells. The researchers say the reaction was not caused by heating and claim they have found a separate way in which mobile phones could damage health. Dr Rony Seger, a co-author of the study, told the magazine New Scientist: "The significance lies in showing cells do react to cell phone radiation in a non-thermal way."

Although changes in the chemical pathway seen by the Israeli scientists have been linked to several cancers, the researchers say there was no sign of a cancer-causing effect. Dr Simon Arthur, a health expert at Dundee University, said the effect was 'unlikely to cause cancer'. Dr Dariusz Leszczynski, of the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority in Helsinki, said: "If cell-phone radiation cannot induce biological effects then there will never be any health effects. "On the other hand if we can show this radiation is able to induce biological effects then we have a different story."

A major review of mobile phone safety is due to be published by the U.K. Health Protection Agency in Fall 2007. The agency's last major report, in 2004, found no evidence mobile telephones were a serious health risk. It did, however, caution against excessive use, especially by the young. Dr Michael Clark, a spokesman for the agency, said: "Because of findings like this that pop up from time to time, a precautionary approach is justified."

Graham Philips, of campaign group Powerwatch, said: "Safety guidelines assume health effects from mobiles can only occur when significant heating of body tissue occurs. "This study shows biological changes in response to low-level mobile phone radiation - something that could potentially have implications for health. "Further research is required, however guidance based purely on thermal effects is clearly out of date."

Analysis of Health and Environmental Effects of Proposed San Francisco Earthlink Wi-Fi Network

With the advent of this proposal, San Francisco is considering converting the city into a wireless zone. Whatever decision is made should be based on the best available scientific evidence. Wi-Fi simply has not been around long enough to know how these particular frequencies and intensities are likely to affect people who are exposed to them on a daily basis for years at a time. San Francisco is on the forefront of a large population study with some unwilling participants.

The attached PDF report presents guidelines for radio frequency radiation in various countries; scientific studies that document the adverse effects of living near cell phone antennas (it is the closest we have to Wi-Fi antennas) for both humans and animals; and laboratory studies that demonstrate the harmful effects of radio frequency radiation. The levels showing adverse biological/health effects are compared to FCC guidelines and to calculations of likely exposure in San Francisco attributed to the Earthlink Wi-Fi Network as discussed in “Earthlink-Proposed San Francisco-Wide Wi-Fi Network: Observations and Calculations for Relation to Exposure Limits” prepared by Mitch Maifeld of Zenzic Research...

INTENTION HEALTH RESEARCH STUDY TO TEST THE EFFECTIVENESS OF BIOPROTEC CHIPS

Testing Equipment
Biomeridian MSA-21 Professional Device (FDA Registered)

Test 1
legend.jpg
test2.jpg
Many functional or energy medical devices, such as the BioMeridian MSA-21 Professional testing device used in this study are assessed on the research of Dr. Reinhold Voll. Voll established that there is a network of energy channels, called meridians, flowing through the body. Meridian points, some of which correlate to acupuncture points, can be used to collect energetic data. Dr. Voll demonstrated that the body’s organs are associated with different energy meridians. Imbalances in various organs are believed to manifest themselves as energetic disturbances in the associated meridians. These energetic meridians are also highly responsive to external stressors, almost immediately.

These points represent the condition of the entire human energy system and, within seconds, reflect physical reactions to the exposure of EMF. Also, the body’s compensatory reactions through homeostasis can immediately be measured and evaluated through these points. The MSA-21 Professional by Biomeridian (an FDA registered device) was used as the measuring device. It is a computerized stress assessment system that measures stress in up to 60 different parts of the human body. It is currently used by over 1500 physicians in both the U.S. and many other countries as an important indicator of resistance to stress in essential bio-systems throughout the body.

For purposes of speed and understanding we analyzed the body in seven key areas:

  1. LYMPHATIC

  2. LUNG

  3. LARGE INTESTINE

  4. NERVOUS SYSTEM

  5. CIRCULATORY SYSTEM

  6. ALLERGY

  7. CELLULAR METABOLISM

In each of these areas, the individual was measured on a data output scale of 0-100. The ideal target zone falls within the 45-55 scale unit range. Doctors say that with MSA-21 System, any measurement above 55 is stressful as it indicates excess energy, or an inflamed condition in that part of the human biofield. Any measurement below 45 is also stressful, because a lower number represents impaired, weakened, or blocked energy systems. The closer the measurements are to 50, the closer they are to actually being in a state of homestasis. Average test measurements took approximately 4-6 minutes so as to negate the element of time compensation.

In summary under the influence of the BIOPROTEC chip the disturbance of the body’s stress response when subjected to EMF exposure is harmonized or dampened back to a healthy standard range. This in fact demonstrates the positive effect of these devices.

What Is Electromagnetic Radiation (EMR)?

We are in the midst of potentially the most pervasive and important environmental struggle of the new millennium, the struggle to understand the effects of exposure to electromagnetic radiation.

Wireless devices and broadcast antennas threaten the natural and human environments in ways that affect every one of us at home, school, places of worship, and at work.

If you didn’t take physics in high school, or if you haven’t had occasion to put the knowledge you learned there into practical application lately, here’s your chance. Electromagnetic radiation, naturally occurring and man-made, is all around you in your everyday life. Here are some links to put all of that into perspective.

Here’s an explanation of what Electromagnetic Radiation is.

Here’s a schematic explanation of the different “divisions” of the electromagnetic spectrum.

This table lists the frequency wavelengths for radio frequency radiation - the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that is used for personal wireless communications such as cellular and PCS phones is indicated as “Personal Communications”.

Now try to put all of this information together as you read through this page from NASA’s educational site. The graphics are very helpful and quite complete. As is to be expected though, graphics take awhile to come up on your screen, so be patient.

From the California EMF Program - Fact Sheets on electromagnetic radiation exposures in the home, school, and workplace as well as information on EMR research findings.

Are there adverse health effects from human exposure to electromagnetic radiation (EMR)and specifically, radio frequency radiation (RFR) coming from cellular phone transmitter?

What kind of research has been done? What is the history of legislation and regulation regarding (RFR) in the United States?

The EMR Network concentrates its efforts on public education about radio frequency radiation (RFR). With the global buildout of wireless telecommunications systems, this is the area of the EMR spectrum that is making its way into every community. Humans are irrevocably altering the electromagnetic signature of the world. And we are doing this with no clear understanding of the implications to humans or other species. “A Clear Call: American Unplugged - A Guide to the Wireless Issue,” by B. Blake Levitt, award winning medical and science write, is a primer on the many facets of the RFR health issue in America. This presentation was first given at the Berkshire-Litchfield Environmental Council: Environmental Tower Siting Conference, held in Connecticut on May 10, 1997. (This is a PDF document.)

Telecom Towers Tsunami - an update from B. Blake Levitt.

There are medical and political ramifications to cell tower siting in our country. At its core, this is a medical and an environmental issue. In emphasizing aesthetics, such as hiding antennas in church steeples, our premier planners are missing a critical opportunity to exercise prudent avoidance and precautionary principles - wise courses of action now recommended by doctors and public health officials all over the world.

The most crucial question about electromagnetic radiation is whether the general public is exposed to hazardous levels of emissions in everyday life. The scientific controversy centers around the argument that EMR can only produce harm at power levels high enough to heat human tissue. This explanation of the problems with that argument refers specifically to radio frequency/microwave radiation used for wireless telecommunications, but it applies to other areas of the electromagnetic spectrum. “Serious Flaws with the FCC RF/MW Safety Standards,” by B. Blake Levitt, award-winning science author. (This is a PDF document.)

How does electromagnetic radiation (EMR) affect living organisms?

Can EMR exposure cause harm?

You’ll find answers in this interview with Dr. Robert Becker, M.D., one of the first medical pioneers to study natural electrical currents in the human body and to caution about electropollution. Dr. Becker was twice nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine. This interview with Linda Moulton Howe of Earthfiles took place in May, 2000

Health Jewelry... Do these things really work?

By now, you've heard the stories and you've seen the pros wearing them – pendants and bracelets touting everything from increased energy to enhanced focus. Chances are, you've even purchased one yourself, hoping to boost your own golf game. The burgeoning popularity of health jewelry with both pros and amateurs alike poses an interesting question: Do these things really work?

In the health and sports jewelry market, you will find an assortment of labels like SRT3, ionization, magnetics, titanium and vibrational technology, just to name a few, but what does all this mean? Is there science behind any of it? Why do the pros wear them? Does it really help their games? And, most importantly, will it help ours?

But first, some background on the “health jewelry” options out there. The claims of health jewelry manufacturers seem fairly similar – better health, better performance. The means by which this goal is reached, if at all, is where this gets complicated, so we decided to do a little testing of our own.

We went to a third-party company with FDA registered medical diagnostic equipment used by doctors and health practitioners around the world to assess functional health. BioMeridian is the world’s largest manufacturer of Meridian Stress Assessment instrumentation, machines that measure stress and energy levels in the human body. Who better to test the claims put forth by these manufacturers?

With the US-based health jewelry sales in the past ten years reaching over $50 million, the results were surprising: newcomer Shuzi performed best, better than supposed market leader Q-Ray. After following each product’s instructions on proper usage, we got tested by a certified professional on the BioMeridian machine – first without any health jewelry to get a baseline, and subsequently with each piece. The results were clear – only Q-Link and Shuzi reduced stress in my body. Because the Shuzi bracelet passed the BioMeridian assessment with flying colors and we really hadn't heard much about it, we thought it wise to delve a little deeper and find out more about our undisputed champion.

We are told that the products are used by professional athletes and teaching professionals, and contain vibrational technology programmed at the nano-level, aptly named Nano Vibrational Technology (NVT). NVT seems to provide the most immediate benefits of all the products we tested – benefits such as enhanced energy and strength, improved balance and heightened mental clarity.

Simply put, Shuzi products are programmed to resonate with your body’s own natural frequency, providing a stronger signal to help you function more efficiently. It’s like pushing a child on a swing – if you don’t hit that certain tempo, you won’t get the swing to go any higher. Shuzi helps you hit your stride, as well as your golf ball! The proof is in the putting – after adding Shuzi to our arsenal, the ball goes farther, the swing is more balanced and focus is no longer a problem.

With a variety of stylish pieces, ranging from sleek cuff and link bracelets to contemporary necklaces, Shuzi fills a niche that even Q-Link misses, making it not only functional, but fashionable as well. “The consumer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and with such a large range of products to choose from, we feel we have something for everyone,” says John Browning, CEO of Shuzi.

Scientifically Proven

So, does health jewelry work? It does for Q-Link devotees like Charles Howell III and Lorena Ochoa, and Shuzi made believers out of us! As we saw firsthand, BioMeridian’s FDA-registered medical diagnostic equipment has confirmed that Shuzi products reduce stress in the human body, promoting greater overall health and general wellness.

Whether you need increased focus for those long putts, enhanced strength for more powerful drives, or just an overall sense of balance for everyday life, Shuzi seems to be a reliable ally, and definitely best-in-show when it comes to health jewelry.
